SPONSOR AND PANELIST SHAN-NEL D. SIMMONS of NEL’S TAX HELP
The 2017 MoneyBaltimore Committee interviewed Shan-Nel Simmons and asked her a few questions. Check out her responses and bio below.
Question: What is the most important thing a new entrepreneur can do to be successful?
Shan-Nel: Do not try to do everything yourself. Everyone wants to save money. But many entrepreneurs falsely believe they can handle their own books and records, draft their own contracts, process their own payroll, etc. But when it comes to financial and legal matters, a mistake in any one of these areas can kill your business before it gets a chance to really prosper. That is why it is so important to have, at a minimum, an accounting professional, a lawyer, and a financial advisor on your team to help you with your new business.
Question: What is the best business advice anyone ever gave you?
Shan-Nel: Be prepared. It is very impressive when everything is ready to go, on time, without any hiccups. Sure, mistakes happen all the time; and no one can predict the future. But as a professional, in order to be successful you have to make sure you are prepared to be successful.
